Success is a Habit

North Meck standout Bremner has permanent reminder to work hard

Carlin Bremner thought about it for a long time.

Sure, he wasn’t the first high school basketball player to make this kind of commitment, but what he hoped to do would permanently change his life.

Then again, wasn’t that the point?

Next, Bremner talked about it for a long time.

He approached his father, Eric, who at first tried to change his son’s mind. But after several deep conversations, the elder Bremner relented, choosing instead to advise his son on the matter at hand.

Finally, Bremner did it.

Big-Game Hunter

Hopewell star’s performances, mind-set belie her small stature

How could they have known?

How could all those people who took one look at Hunter Meakin and figured she was too short, too slow and too fragile to be a dominant basketball player have known her work ethic?

How could they have known that, since her elementary school days, she’d spent countless hours in her driveway shooting basketballs until her arms were tired and nighttime began to cover Huntersville?

Hopewell girls make their presence known

If the Hopewell girls basketball team was under the radar before Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ winter break, it isn’t anymore.

Vikings bond, win in Wilmington

North Meck boys basketball coach Duane Lewis didn’t mind packing up his team and heading to Wilmington for the Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament last month. Lewis said the trip allowed his players a chance to get to know one another better.

“I think it’s good for the guys to bond,” said Lewis of traveling out of town to holiday tournaments. “It brings them closer together because they hang out and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together. At some point in the trip, each player is going to spend time with every teammate.”

Titans win second Bojangles’ title

The Hopewell boys successfully defended their Bojangles’ High School Basketball Shootout championship with impressive victories over three talented teams: Charlotte Christian, Ardrey Kell and Victory Christian.

Hopewell’s closest margin of victory was a 58-55 win over Charlotte Christian, a team loaded with Division I talent.  Many in attendance thought the game between the Knights and Titans should have been the championship finals.
