Lately, much more than history, math and grammar lessons are being absorbed by a group of dedicated Ardrey Kell students. Providence Spring Elementary students launch Operation Sandwich

Providence Spring Elementary School students rolled up their sleeves, tied on some aprons and got busy preparing more than 3,000 turkey and cheese and ham and cheese sandwiches to include in the 1,500 bag lunches they assembled for nonprofit The Urban Ministries Center. Students arrived at 7 a.m.

South Charlotte students fare well at Wingate University Shakespeare ­competition

Macbeth, Hamlet and Othello came alive at Wingate University’s annual Shakespeare competition last week as middle and high school students from surrounding schools competed on campus.

For the preliminary round, students recited a sonnet and a portion of a Shakespeare play before a panel of judges, formed by Wingate staff, faculty and one student.

South Meck student awarded Hood Hargett’s February scholarship

South Mecklenburg High School senior Brady Stephenson recently was awarded Hood Hargett Breakfast Club’s Liz Murray Scholarship for February. The business group, whose members meet monthly at Carmel Country Club, selects one student for recognition each month based on academic and sports achievements.
